DUBAI: Extending the series of inquiry into an attempt by an international syndicate to corrupt Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday said that it queries and questioned about that issue with three more players.
An authorized personal of PCB established that 3 players Mohammad Irfan of Islamabad United, Zulfiqar Babar of Quetta Gladiators and Shahzaib Hassan of Karachi Kings were interrogated by the PCB’s ACU. “Mohammad irfan was also investigated for the trial of corruption related to betting news about PSL Players. Although there was not any immediate suspension was carried out for Mohammad Iran indeed PCB’s anti-corruption unit division has also questioned the other two suspected PSL Players that are also part of Pakistan’s National Cricket Team Shahzaib Hasan and Zulfiqar Babar. The PCB Statement related to the suspect’s matter of relevance continued that the player didn’t had any ban since the current event is running and trial is under go; but they didn’t confirmed that if the players where totally innocent for the malicious prosecution or they seems to be supposed as real suspects.
Earlier, there were some media reports that Mohammad Irfan was also ejected from PSL and he was being led home. However, following the PCB’s announcement that Irfan was not postponed, the left-arm fast bowler travelled with his Islamabad United co-players to the sports ground for the match against Lahore Qalandars.
But, Irfan was not named in Islamabad’s final XI for the match against Lahore Qalandars.
Meanwhile, Najam Sethi, the leading person of Pakistan Super League, has recapped the commitment of abolish the black sheep components from Pakistan Super League.
“The ACU will remain alert and continue to keep the PSL from the risk of bribery,” he said.
Further players questioned
According to fonts, some more players were “questioned” by ACU officers, but they were not the part of the analysis, neither are they under the scanner.
“Reports were asked from other sportsmen as well, regarding if they have any data which are related to that issue. You can’t inform it an enquiry cell, but they were just asked random questions by the ACU,” the source said.
Foundations further added that one of the players was under investigation for not reporting the approach made to him. However, the player was not named by the source.
According to fonts, one of the players who was named as “being questioned” by Pakistan Cricket Board was the one who reported the approach to the board.
“It was Shahzaib Hasan, who reported the approach to the board after receiving a doubtful phone call,” said the source.
